What can we do to make it easier to design with Wild Apricot?

Enable drop down navigation on active item

I'm working on a new site design with the Transparent - Horizontal theme and theme overrides. This design uses the drop down navigation and some on page navigation in place of the second level navigation, which is hidden. This is working well, except that by default the drop down does not work on the actively selected top level navigation item. Is there a place in the theme where I can alter this to allow the actively selected menu item to continue to offer a drop down when selected?

        Hello,

You would need to edit the files located in the Menu.Horizontal

The simplest way to handle this is to edit two files: "ItemTopLevel.tpl" and "ItemClass.tpl"

Some basic knowledge of the Template Language http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Theme+files+language+syntax will be helpful to make the changes.

It's a bit too complex to direct you on how to make the changes here - if you are comfortable with modifying themes, I'll point you in the right direction below, otherwise please contact me if you would like to have this implemented for you.

Let's start with "ItemClass.tpl" as this is the easiest. This assigns the CSS class based on whether the link has subpages. You will need to change the CSS for selected menu items to the default class for unselected items that have subpages - this class is "itemNormal"

Now for "ItemTopLevel.tpl", here you will need to add code so that parent pages with selected subpages still display the dynamic menu. In this file is code for parent pages that do not have a selected child page to show the dynamic menu, you would base the additional code you write off of this.

Again, if none of this makes any sense, do not hesitate to reach out by sending an email to ideas@dotcreativity.com http://dotcreativity.com/contact
